Santa Fe’s Unusual Doors

Wooden arched door in adobe wall

As I await the local flora to spring forth, this post is definitely a departure from the usual subject matter. Colorful in their own right Santa Fe’s doors are definitely unique! Admittedly I miss the local xeriscape gardens I’d frequent in Colorado. By now the Dwarf Iris would be popping up everywhere. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the little buggers.

Sadly Santa Fe did not have a winter. No snowy walks to capture photos of frosty trees or the like. For someone who LOVES snow this was a total bummer. Colorado did not fair much better this season in the snow department. Thus I needed a temporary redirect. So while I’ve been exploring the different neighborhoods, with a new iPhone in hand, doors became the focus of my attention. Plus it’s been a nice way to get familiar with this new iPhone’s camera. And YES it’s far superior to my old iPhone camera!

That being said, Santa Fe really does have some very unusual doors. Often embedded in walls, as gateways to people’s homes, they span a variety of sizes, colors, textures AND building materials.

Santa Fe’s Doors in Wood, Metal and Tile

The beauty of on-foot exploration cannot be overstated. Doing so enables you to stop frequently and take in your surroundings. Truthfully, you can’t not stop and observe some of these doors.

Allowing the photos to do the talking, you can see no two are the same!

A Small Sampling of Many

This is just a small sampling of the many unique doors that adorn entryways to Santa Fe’s adobe homes.

Much like the art that this city is so famous for, doors take their rightful place among the scenery. If you are a fan of adobe style architecture, then you can see how these doors compliment the structures.

If you find yourself visiting Santa Fe, do take note of the doors. In the mean time, I will do the same as I patiently await the spring flowers to bloom. 🙂
